Advanced Contextual Pistol Skills and Qualifications (WI)

Event Date: Sunday, September 20, 2020
Event Time: 8:30am - 5:00pm

This is a by request course I have developed for RCLRC.

This course would NOT be appropriate for anyone without some level of pistol training already. The courses of fire will be demanding.

Students should be experienced IDPA/USPSA competition shooters, or have attended a combative pistol course such as my Close Quarters Pistol, the Rangemaster Combative Pistol class, Dave Spaulding’s combative pistols classes, etc. Please contact me if you are unsure.

Examples of material to be covered include:

  • Firing from positions of cover and disadvantage.
  • Concealed carry draw in context of driving, being seated, grounded, etc.
  • Malfunctions and “wounded shooter” drills.
  • Reloads.
  • Long range shooting.
  • Shooting on the move.
  • Law enforcement/SWAT pistol qualification courses, such as the FBI qualification and the LAPD SWAT qualification, as a test of the shooter’s skill will be a integral part of this class.

Students will need:

  • A high quality semi auto handgun, and a holster that can be concealed and allows safe reholstering one handed. If the student is in law enforcement or security and wants to run a duty rig that is also an option.
  • A magazine pouch to carry at least one reload for drills. At least three magazines total.
  • Serpa holsters, and kydex/leather combination “hybrid” holsters would not be suitable for this class.
  • Any safe IWB, AIWB or outside the waistband holster that can meet the reholster criteria will suffice. My recommendations include Dark Star Gear, PHLsters holsters, JM Custom Kydex, Keepers Concealment, Milt Sparks.
  • 500 rounds of ammunition.

There will be a range fee for students who are not members of the RCLRC.
